The Frequency and Nature of Employee Mobility from MNEs »(Auteurs: Martin Andersson\, Davide Castellani\, Claudio Fassio\, Viroj Jienwatcharamongkhol)\nAbstract – Mobility of workers from multinational enterprises (MNEs) to other local firms is increasingly recognized as an important externality mechanism. But how frequent are such mobility patterns and what is their nature? Combining insights from international business theory and the strategic human capital literature we argue that MNE workers develop significant and highly valuable human capital which contributes to firm-specific advantages. Though\, these skills are not necessarily firm-specific\, but they can be transferred also to other organizations\, especially when the mobile employees were previously employed in managerial positions in the MNE and when there is a high degree of similarity or complementarity between organizations. Using longitudinal matched employer-employee data for Sweden with detailed information on individuals\, establishments and firms\, we find that workers employed in MNEs are indeed more likely to leave their employer\, compared to similar workers employed in non-MNEs with similar characteristics. This effect in mobility is particularly strong for high-wage workers and managers. DESCRIPTION:Agenda > Tous les événements\nSéminaire d’économie de Bordeaux\nMardi 16 juin à 14h sur Zoom :\nPierre Magal (IMB)\n« Understanding unreported cases in the COVID-19 epidemic outbreak and the importance of major public health interventions « \nAbstract: We develop a mathematical model to provide epidemic predictions for the COVID-19 epidemic in China. We use reported case data from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and  the Wuhan Municipal  Health Commission to parameterize the model. From the parameterized model we identify the number of unreported cases. We then use the model to project the epidemic forward with varying level of public health interventions. The model predictions emphasize the importance of major public health interventions in controlling COVID-19 epidemics. \nEmmanuelle Augeraud-Veron (GREThA)\n« Impact of physical distancing on the spread of COVID-19 epidemics »\nL’objectif de cette présentation est de présenter plusieurs modélisations de la distanciation physique sur l’évolution de l’épidémie de COVID-19. L’impact de ces modélisations (exogène ou endogène) sur l’évolution temporelle de l’épidémie est considéré afin de présenter différents scénarios construits à partir des données françaises. We propose that  entrepreneurship will shift the scientist’s attention away from intra-disciplinary research questions and towards new bodies of knowledge relevant for downstream technology development. This will alter the individual’s search towards greater exploration\, leading them to work on topics outside their discipline. In turn\, the shift towards exploration will enhance the quality of the entrepreneurial scientist’s subsequent research as concepts and models from other bodies of knowledge are combined in novel ways\, resulting in more impactful work. Entrepreneurship leads to more impactful research\, mediated by exploration. Using panel data on the full population of researchers at a large research university\, we find support for this argument. Some of them are successful\, but most of them are not. The substantial differences in performance are explained by heterogeneity with regard to the goals that characterized these firms. Drawing from self-determination theory\, we propose a taxonomy of goals\, including profit\, dimensional growth and survival which are originated by extrinsic monetary\, extrinsic reputational and intrinsic motivations respectively. The study employs a mix method of analysis. The first qualitative part is based on 12 semi-structured interviews to academic spinoffs’ founder in order to assess how the motivation of academic scientists to start a business translates into organizational goals of their ventures. The second quantitative part analyses the difference in performance of 778 Italian academic spinoffs established by 59 Italian state universities from 2006 to 2015 according to their organizational goals. Results show that an extrinsic monetary motivation to establish academic spinoffs corresponds to a goal to realize profit\, proxied in return-on-assets; extrinsic reputation motivation corresponds to an organizational growth goal measured by employment growth; and intrinsic motivation corresponds to an organizational survival goal  easured by survival rate.
