This paper examines the effects of youth-led protest movements on climate-related attitudes and political preferences, focusing on the Fridays for Future (FFF) movement in France between 2019 and 2024. FFF events involved massive participation of young individuals largely detached from political parties and with political consciousness still under construction. Using novel survey data and geolocated protest information, we implement an event-study design to estimate the causal impact of FFF protests on climate-related views. We leverage variation in individuals’ age during FFF and their spatial exposure to demonstrations to study generational and exposure effects.
