Researchers and decision-makers lack a shared understanding of resilience and practical applications in environmental resource management are rare. Here, following Grafton, Doyen et al. (Nature Sustainability, 2019), ecological-economic resilience is defined through three characteristics of systems — resistance, recovery and robustness (3 R’s). Resilience management thus consists in prevention, adaptation and transformational actions that may improve these 3 R’s. The project ENTROPIC will apply this 3 R’s framework for the resilience management of coastal tropical biodiversity and ecosystems in connection with, firstly, fishery management and, secondly, mangrove management. ENTROPIC relies in particular on the case study of French Guiana where both the small-scale fishery and the mangrove cover play major ecological-economic roles and face major uncertainties relating to climate change and demographic growth. More specifically, the project ENTROPIC will develop ecological-economic models calibrated on historical data and compare the ecological-economic outcomes of different scenarios derived from these models in terms of resilience management and the 3Rs. ENTROPIC is strongly interdisciplinary as it will bring together both ecological, economic and modeling scientists in particular from two mixed unit  centers of CNRS namely BSE (ex-GREThA /INSHS) and LEEISA (INEE).
